Both Dr. Sava, Chairman of the Board of The Parent Institute and Dr. John
H. Wherry, Publisher, have worked to guide the direction of the nation's
schools. Their collective educational experience is over 90 years, spanning
five decades of educational growth and research into how children learn.
Dr. Sava (above at left) spent 18 years as the Executive Director
of the National Association of Elementary School Principals. He started
his career as an elementary school teacher and then a principal. He served
as Director of Research for the U.S. Office of Education, now the U.S.
Department of Education, where he helped develop the Head Start program
and the original Elementary and Secondary Education Act in 1965. He has
recently served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Foundation
for the Advancement of Teaching.
Dr. Wherry (above at right), founding president of The Parent
Institute in 1989, began his career as a high school English and journalism
teacher and became the first Director of Public Information for the Kansas
City, Kansas Public Schools. He served 13 years as Executive Director
of the National School Public Relations Association publishing newsletters,
books, articles and guides on education issues. He serves on the board
of directors for Recruiting New Teachers, a national nonprofit agency
committee developing a qualified and diverse teaching force for the nation's
schools.
Dr. Wherry and Dr. Sava are the leaders of The Parent Institute (TPI).
Since 1989, The Parent Institute has provided educators with information
for parents to help them help their children learn. Now, with an extensive
